What detour are planned for the KLANGLICHT evenings in the city center?

Due to official requirements, the art installations on display at Klanglicht from October 24 to 26, 2024 require the implementation of various traffic-related measures aimed at maintaining the flow of traffic in the city center in the best possible way.

Accordingly, several streets will be specifically diverted during the event, which may cause delays in the city center and in catchment streets.

The event area shown in the graphic between Graz Opera House, Freiheitsplatz and Karmeliterplatz will be closed to traffic on the three event evenings(October 24 to 26, 2024) from approx. 17:00 to 23:30.

Access to Erzherzog-Johann-Allee in the direction of Burgtor is not possible, Opernring is closed between Franz-Graf-Allee and Girardigasse.

Access to the Einspinnergasse underground parking garage is possible, but considerable obstructions from Glacisstraße and additional time must be expected. The exit from the Einspinnergasse underground parking garage is via Burgring, which becomes a single lane from house number 24. The onward journey in the direction of Jakominiplatz will be widely diverted via Franz-Graf-Allee.

The opera garage can be accessed via Girardigasse / Hamerlinggasse; additional time is to be expected.

What measures are being taken to address the issue of sustainability?

Every year since 2015, KLANGLICHT, the BÜHNEN GRAZ art festival, has invited visitors to experience the magic and fascination of our theaters in public spaces and uses light and sound to illuminate locations in our city, casting them in a new light and thus providing new perspectives on our living environment – and a new approach to artistic projects.

From the very beginning, our aim has been to prove that art and culture can inspire and move large crowds. We understand this goal more broadly: We focus on the sustainability of the event, taking into account not only ecological, but also social and economic aspects in the organization and implementation.

In close coordination and support with our partners, our festival sponsors E-Werk Franz, XAL and Holding Graz, KLANGLICHT takes measures to ensure sustainability in the planning and implementation of the event at all levels.

In the area of energy supply, KLANGLICHT is in close cooperation and exchange with E-Werk Franz, which is not only a festival sponsor, but as a local energy supplier has also been supplying electricity to end customers for over 120 years.

To make the installations stand out better, the street lighting and ambient light is also switched off for the duration of the event every year at KLANGLICHT. The majority of the artistic projects use LEDs and the use of generators is generally avoided.

KLANGLICHT also makes a major contribution to social sustainability: the event is always held in public spaces and is free to attend for everyone. Barrier-free access for visitors with limited mobility is provided at all locations. In close cooperation with educational institutions in the city, emphasis is placed on an in-depth exchange with pupils and students.

As a partner of the “Hunger for Art and Culture” campaign, people who cannot afford it due to their current living situation can also acquire a KLANGLICHT ticket free of charge at the Bühnen Graz ticket center with the Kulturpass.

On a programmatic, artistic level, KLANGLICHT promotes local and regional artists in particular. Through co-productions with other festivals and collective transportation within Europe, both costs and environmental impact are reduced.

Last but not least: a festival pass entitles you to free travel on the entire Styrian public transport network on the day of the event. In order to make it as easy as possible for visitors to travel by public transport, the frequency of public transport will also be increased in cooperation with Holding Graz on the evenings of the event and operating hours will be extended.

Responsible use of the resources available to us is not only the order of the day, but also contributes to the success of the KLANGLICHT event.
