UNTITLED (QUESTION PROJECTION)
People tend to use their minds to categorize and classify the world and thus make sense of it. In reality, however, all our knowledge provides no answers to many existential, burning and banal questions: Why does nothing ever happen? Have I never been fully awake? Should I get drunk? Or: Will happiness find me? With their project, the renowned Swiss artist duo Peter Fischli and David Weiss throw around 1,400 recurring questions onto walls with a bed at the foot of them – possibly because we like to ask ourselves such serious but also amusing questions before sleep overtakes us. As one of the most important works of contemporary art, which was awarded the Golden Lion at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, Fischli & Weiss’ question projections demonstrate the complexity of seemingly simple questions and encourage us to think about them more intensively.

Biography:
Peter Fischli (Swiss, born 1952) and David Weiss (Swiss, 1946-2012) are an artist duo best known for their multimedia installations and films that present everyday materials in absurd and humorous contexts. Fischli was born in Zurich and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino and Bologna. Weiss, also born in Zurich, studied at the School of Applied Arts in Zurich and Basel. Fischli and Weiss began their collaboration in 1979 with the sausage series, 10 color photographs of everyday scenes depicted by disguised sausages. The absurdity and playfulness that characterize all their works show the influence of Dada, Surrealism and Pop Art.
